Retirement Age Calculator (USA)

About This Calculator

This retirement age calculator is set up for the United States, where the Social Security full retirement age is 67 for people born in 1960 or later. Enter your date of birth and, if you are planning around a different age, adjust the figure; the calculator returns your retirement date and the time remaining until then.

The full retirement age matters because it is the point at which you can claim full Social Security benefits. Knowing the exact date you reach it — and how many years, months, and days are left — helps with planning around benefit timing, employer retirement plans, and the transition out of work. The total-days figure gives an even finer view for tracking progress.

The date is your date of birth plus the retirement age in whole years, with leap-day and month-end birthdays handled correctly. The time remaining is then counted from today using real month lengths, so the breakdown is exact. The default is 67, but you can lower it to model claiming reduced benefits earlier (as early as 62) or raise it to model delaying.

To use it, choose your date of birth, confirm or change the retirement age, and press Calculate. Your retirement date and the time left appear instantly, computed privately in your browser. If you have already reached the age you enter, it shows when.

This is a date calculator, not benefits or financial advice. Exact full retirement age can vary by birth year, and claiming rules are set by the Social Security Administration — confirm your own details with them. The retirement date calculator and retirement countdown work the same way for any age.

How It Works

  1. Enter your date of birth.
  2. Enter your retirement age in years.
  3. Click “Calculate”.
  4. See your retirement date and how long is left until then.

Formula & Methodology

The result is worked out as follows:

Retirement date = Date of birth + retirement age; Time left = years / months / days until then

Retirement date = date of birth + retirement age (default 67, the Social Security full retirement age for those born in 1960 or later; editable). Time remaining is the complete years, months, and days from today to that date.
